Shipman & Goodwin's regular Harvey users report saving an average of 10-plus hours a week

Shipman & Goodwin, a law firm of about 160 lawyers, says its regular users of Harvey, the legal AI platform, report saving more than 10 hours a week on average. One partner says a two-day covenant review became a two-hour project.

Key figures

  • 10+ hours Saved per week, on average, as reported by the firm's regular Harvey users. Self-reported. (Harvey customer story, 28 Sep 2026; Shipman & Goodwin release, 1 Oct 2026)
  • 2 days to 2 hours One restrictive covenant review across 50-plus closing documents, per a corporate partner. (Harvey customer story, 28 Sep 2026)

Customer story published by Harvey, which sells the AI platform described. The firm repeated the hours figure in its own release. Hours are self-reported and have not been independently verified.

Mid-market law firms are expected to deliver big-firm work without big-firm headcount. A lot of the gap is reading: transcripts, closing sets, the other side's redlines.

In a customer story published September 28, 2026, Harvey, which sells the AI platform, describes how Shipman & Goodwin uses it. The firm has "roughly 160 lawyers in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Texas." The headline line: "On average, Shipman's regular Harvey users report saving 10-plus hours per week." In its own release on October 1, 2026, the firm repeats it as "more than 10 hours per week" and says its AI Committee "evaluated roughly 10 AI tools and selected Harvey."

The examples are specific. Julia Camarco, a corporate partner, loaded "50-plus closing documents" into Harvey to pull and analyze every restrictive covenant in a sale: "It took a two-day project and made it a two-hour project." Dan Schwartz, a partner, used it to rebuild the outline for a half-finished deposition in a long-running case: "What would have taken me one or two days was done in about two hours."

Schwartz adds a line about where the judgment sits: "AI helps us work more efficiently, but it's the human insight behind the advice that matters most."

How to read this: the hours are self-reported by the firm's regular users, given as an average with no baseline and no count of users. The main source is a customer story published by the vendor, though the firm confirmed the figure on its own site. The two-day-to-two-hour examples are individual partners' accounts, not measured studies.

For a regular user, 10-plus hours is more than a working day a week. The firm says that time goes to strategy, business development and client work.
